A set of 2-mter handheld radio transceivers along with Tigertronics RTX-12 Radio Modem were used in this project to provide a simple and functional result between microcontrollers long range data transmission.
Any microcontroller can be used in this project but the Parallax BASIC Stamp 2 was chosen. A simple version that lacks error checking and a more complete example with checksums are the two sets of programs included. The sample programs require the two duplicate setups in order to run. To display data from the transmitter, the receiver will remain connected to the PC through serial or USB cable. The RTX-12 can be connected using a ribbon cable.
To connect the mic and speaker port, the 2-meter HT radio manufacturers have vendor-specific cables since the speaker cable is 3.5mm and the mic is commonly 2.5mm which are often joined for a single connection to the radio. The radio’s mic and speaker cable will be connected to the microcontroller project board by making another cable since they are both mono cables.
The DEBUG terminal can be seen by pressing the reset in the transmitter while the receiver is connected to PC.
