Adjustable Breadboard Power Supply with Low Dropout

Figure:1

Figure 1

A low dropout adjustable power supply has been illustrated in this project which will be used along with breadboard designs.

A wider range of output voltages, including generating 3.3V from as low as 3.7V, is possible due to the low dropout. The design is protected from short circuit and overheating and the circuitry is protected from negative voltages or AC power supplies by an input diode. The high and low voltages are indicated by two LEDs and for adjusting from 1.25V up to 0.5V of the input voltage, an onboard potentiometer is used. A power on the right hand side is indicated by the green LED and the red indicator LED turns dim when selecting 3.3V on voltage selection switch.

The power coming directly from the DC jack or terminal block is the high voltage side on the right hand side. The power that is running through the voltage regulator is the adjustable regulated voltage side. A heatsink is also included to prevent the supply from being hot and cut out.

The power supply is plugged using the header-breakouts in the middle since the breadboard has nonstandard spacing.
