The project illustrates the setup and proper tools for back horn loudspeaker enclosure building which is pre-cut and pre-finished.
The kit comes complete with everything needed except for an optional soldering iron where all the parts were clearly labeled with a lettered sticker. It includes several illustrations which makes the step-by-step instructions easy to follow. The damping material needs extra attention since the damping sheets are floppy and can make a mess when they come together.
A number of ways can be applied to connect the binding posts to the driver and the simplest is through soldering. Other ways can be used such as a crimping tool with a blade disconnect and ring or spade terminals, just to ensure the binding posts to the driver will have good connection.
The 4” (100mm) Tang Band W4-1617 full range speaker driver is contained in the D4-1 speaker kit. A die-cast aluminum basket with a large under-hung neodymium magnet motor system is used to construct the driver. Using a sound pressure level meter, about 86dB of sensitivity was measured. The Tang Band D4-1 Horn speakers kits are made for nice sounding speakers.
