Base/Hub Boards with USB or Serial Interface

Figure:1

Figure 1

The project utilizes either serial or USB formats to allow the base/hub boards to be connected to a PC.

In using USB interface, the board allows connection of three 1-wire segments to a USB port. An external power supply is used to provide power which avoids problems with the current limits imposed by USB. The base board also provides two 1-wire branches. Several pad sets are provided in addition to the interface and hub functions to allow temperature or other 3-terminal 1-wire devices to be added to the board. A dual Schottky diode is connected to provide surge suppression to allow programming of device.

In using the serial interface, all 4 RJ-45 connectors are 1-wire LANs and the boards are the same form factor with matching internal connectors. The board is limited to devices that do not require 12V for programming on the connectors using surge suppression. There are pull-up resistors added to provide power to devices when the bus is not selected.

The power provision of this serial interface board is identical to the USB interface board. Switched LAN segments on J60 and J67 are provided by both base/hub boards.
