The project uses wireless serial links in order to control multiple BlinkM LED modules through a modified old relay tester.
The design of the project includes 4 knobs on the relay tester box where resistance at each setting is added which provide control on the LED sequences. They are read by 4 analog input pins on the ATmega168 while each functions as voltage divider. A single analog input is used to read and multiplex with digital I/O pins the 4 rheostats above the knobs which are used to control the 4 LED delay values. All 4 BlinkMs to be set by the first knob are sync and toggled using one switch as the data is sent and read continuously to all the BlinkM receiver modules.
The relay tester box functions as the transmitter and is powered together with an Arduino from a USB connector that replaced the alligator clips coming out of the relay tester. The receiver module is represented by the BlinkM which comprises of an ATmega168 which uses I2C for connecting to the BlinkM and through serial for connecting to an RF link wireless receiver. The data is an 11-message format.
