Building an Electronic Recorder

Figure:1

Figure 1

This electronic recorder was constructed and designed along with a simple game where the recorder can be learned to be played.

The recorder is made up of hollow tube with 8 holes where one is at the bottom and seven on top. The player can cover the holes with the fingers since this is a musical instrument from the woodwind family. The fingers are manipulated over the holes to play notes as the player blows into a mouthpiece.

The 3 main components of the project include a visual component, an audio component, and a controller component. An actual recorder with a series of pushbuttons is simulated by the controller component along with the detection when the user is blowing the microphone in the mouthpiece. The production of correct note frequencies corresponding to what holes on the recorder are being covered and whether the user is blowing is the responsibility of the audio component. The simulation of an actual recorder is done by the controller and audio components together.

Displaying the note played by the user and the holes currently covered is the function of the video component which a way to play the recorder.
