Building High End Headphone Amplifier

Figure:1

Figure 1

The purpose of the project is to construct a high end headphone amplifier designed for the highest quality music reproduction with the minimum of distortion.

The amplifier is an essential part of any good sounding headphones that drives them which provides the best advantage in listening pleasure for being able to drive a wide range of headphones. With no expense spared, this amplifier utilizes only the finest audiophile quality components that have been carefully selected. For each channel, a National Semiconductor LME49710HA operation amplifier which costs 20 times the price of an average op-amp.

A black anode aluminum enclosure is used as housing and includes a heavy duty clear anode front panel. It also includes a heavy duty 40mm diameter machined knob with an audio grade volume controller. An ultra low noise toroidal transformer is used to produce a high quality built-in dual rail power supply with a very generous amount of post and pre-regulation smoothing capacitance.

The volume potentiometer used is Alps RK27 which is also known as blue velvet. For other specifications, the dimension of the project is 110×63×168 and the frequency response is 9 Hz to 250 KHz or -1dB.
