This powerful and multipurpose Sanguino board was designed while requiring only the Arduino software since it is all in the open source.
The components used to build the Sanguino board include the ATmega644P as the main component with a completely through-hole construction. There are 8 analog pins, 2K EEPROM, 32 total general purpose I/O pins, 64K flash memory, 4K RAM, two hardware serial ports, and 6 PWM pins.
The onboard USB-TTL chip is omitted by the Sanguino as it follows the path of many other Arduino clones. The serial interface via a 6-pin header on one end of the board is provided instead. It functions exactly like an Arduino board by using a cheap USB to TTL converter. The difference with the Arduino is that there are more digital pin functions that are identical to the Arduino.
A second USART which can be used for serial communication is provided by the ATmega644p chip which is the basis of the Sanguino. A switch that selects between USB and external power is available in the Arduino which also functions as a power switch. A standard 2.1mm DC power jack is also featured in the Sanguino.
