This binary wristwatch displays time when swiped into the air since it uses the persistence of vision (POV) method.
A PIC16LF628A microcontroller is used to build this watch which controls super bright LEDs and only 5 LEDs aligned in a single row are used by POV mode. Other modes include the flashlight mode which would turn OFF the watch technically while in this mode, button diagnostic mode, binary counting mode, set ones of minutes mode, set tens of minutes mode, set hours mode, and binary clock mode. A 70mAh lithium ion polymer battery is used to power the watch as it uses MAX1555 Li-Ion charging IC to charge from USB since it does not require external parts.
Using a single row of 5 LEDs, each column of the display is shown in turn by the PIC. It allows a larger display area to show when the watch is swiped into the air since each column is spatially separated from the last. For its time-base, a ceramic capacitor was used without the need for an accurate crystal timer. The watch was built on a leather band while the battery comes from a Bluetooth headset.
