Customized Microcontroller Based RC Car

Figure:1

Figure 1

The objective of the project is to use microcontroller circuits to replace everything inside an RC car, leaving the body and motors behind.

A pair of 418MHz transmitter/receiver was used for the transmission of control signals and the existing case was used to build another controller. The car was made to work the same way even with the installation of microcontrollers, logic, and associated circuitry.

A null modem cable using the UART communication protocol is applied to connect the two microcontrollers to each other. The modem will be removed later and will be replaced by the transmitter/receiver once the UART communication was established. This makes the transition to a wireless communication easier to be set up since the UART works the same way as the Tx/Rx.

There are some factors to be considered before the disassembly of the car such as motor currents and all voltages. The original RC controller was attacked once the car was operating correctly through the development board. The pushbuttons were replaced with the new switches on the controller and the microcontroller and transmitter were integrated with the controller and maintain the attachment of original antenna.
