The small and relatively simple OnTV-21 device is based on PSoC CY8C26443 microcontroller which allows staying in touch with other people while watching television.
The name OnTV-21 came from the fact that the closed caption information is broadcast on the twenty-first line of the video frame. A wireless link is included in the OnTV-21 that connects to a PC and collects information regarding incoming emails and requests from chat rooms. In order to collect caller ID information, OnTV-21 is attached to a telephone line. Using the closed-caption decoder on modern televisions, the information received by the device is being displayed seamlessly on the TV. OnTV-21 is inserted in the video link between a TV receiver and a TV that has been set to accept an external video input.
A small plastic box is used enclose the OnTV-21 including 2 LEDs and a push button on the front panel while 2 RCA connectors and an RJ11 connector for telephone line on the rear panel. The first LED with STATUS label signifies the status of OnTV-21 if ON, OFF, or Closed Caption. The second LED with LINK label indicates the status of the wireless link.
