The circuit is built around a low cost PWM controller UC3843 generic to create a DC-DC converter.
A duty cycle modulated square wave ranging from 0% to 100 % is being generated commonly by the PWM controller at a fixed frequency of 100 KHz. The design of the project is very simple and cheap using simple architecture, commonly available and non-critical components during the construction. Although the design is simple, it provides very high efficiency from 90% to 95%. This percentage depends on the quality and type of components used.
The power input source of the DC-DC converter may come from traditional car battery since the input voltage ranges from 10V to 18V. On the other hand, the output can be adjusted from 20V to 28V by simply using a trimmer which can provide a better cell pack charge optimization for up to 14 cells. A fast charge 3300mAh battery pack can be used to provide an output current up to 5A.
The project has a dimension of 80mm x 60mm. In order to stack and couple the two boards with only 20mm dimension increase, the output connector has to be positioned properly.

2 years ago: nice info about DC-DC CONVERTER
2 years ago: < href=“http://www.svtelindia.com/content/view/25/87/ ”> DC-DC CONVERTER s are important in portable electronic devices such as cellular phones and laptop computers, which are supplied with power from batteries primarily. Such electronic devices often contain several sub-circuits, each with its own voltage level requirement different than that supplied by the battery or an external supply (sometimes higher or lower than the supply voltage, and possibly even negative voltage). Additionally, the battery voltage declines as its stored power is drained. Switched DC to DC converters offer a method to increase voltage from a partially lowered battery voltage thereby saving space instead of using multiple batteries to accomplish the same thing.
