Demonstrating How Exercise Bike was Hacked

Figure:1

Figure 1

The project uses a multimeter to provide a little modification on an old-fashioned exercise bike in order to perform distance measurement.

In the design, the ON/OFF reading from a pin on the circuit board is done by a little program. A pull-up resistor was used in order to avoid too much soldering of cables which would sometimes result to unwanted scenarios such as cables popping out of the Arduino sockets all the time. It may occur that when the Arduino gets connected to the pull-up resistor and to Ground, an error message may flash out on the computer which says that a current overload exists on the USB hub. This can be resolved by removing the connection and returning it back again. Sometimes this could be a result of forgetting to unplug the computer where excessive electricity may be present.

The obtained data will be interpreted by using and comparing both the speed from the computer and the milliseconds that it takes to pedal one revolution. To show how far have been pedaled and the speed that is currently being undertaken, a little processing sketch was created where statistics can be added.
