Displaying Temperature Using RCX Sensor

Figure:1

Figure 1

The project uses an RCX temperature sensor to be able to display the temperature correctly with the aid of negative temperature coefficient (NTC) resistor.

The use of NTC as a special variety of resistor provides decrease in value as temperature rises. The raw sensor value is being converted to temperature by RCX using the RCX internals, which is the section of program code. There is less than 1% except near limits on the displayed temperature after adding 2.2K Ohm resistor. This is proven by chartering the temperature displayed by RCX versus actual temperature measured with a thermocouple.

During the assembly, both brass tubes with a heat shrink tube are fastened with a 1mm gap between pieces while from the rest of the sensor, the tip of the probe will be thermally separated. The probe will be inserted after soldering the wires and 2.2K Ohm resistor to NTC resistor and insulating the solders with fine heat shrink tube.

The NTC is fixed with a drop of fast-cure epoxy glue while the tube is sealed. The milling counter mounted on the power drill with stand is used to remove 2 of 3 brick internal tubes.
