Flash Trigger with Wireless Capability

Figure:1

Figure 1

The project is also known as Strobist project Open-source Trigger (SPOT) which is a very cool photography hardware that contains a wireless flash trigger that which allows adjustments and triggering off flashes remotely.

The SPOT is a remote flash trigger radio transceiver which operates in two modes while providing artificial light. As a transmitter, it sits on the hot shoe of a camera and forwards electrical flash trigger signals from the camera to slave flashes via radio and as a receiver, it is connected to a small hot shoe flash. At least a pair of these have to be built for the project. Other specifications of the device include remote power level adjustment for old flashes, 4 groups of adjustable flashes, triggers through walls and windows, approximately 30m range, and synchs at up to 1/250th of a second.

The microcontroller used is an Atmel Mega8L that has 512Byte EEPROM, 6-8 channel 10-bit A/D converter, 8Kbyte self-programming Flash Program Memory, and operates from 2.7-5.5V. the display uses a Nokia 3310 since the requirements were ease of use, sufficient resolution, low energy consumption, and size. SPI bus is used to connect the display to microcontroller.
