G-Meter with RMS Measurments

Figure:1

Figure 1

The acceleration of an object can be measured up to five times that of Earth’s gravity using the RMS G-meter.

The meter is being used in many applications in manufacturing and shipping since the RMS G-meter can be put inside or on the object being measured. In manufacturing industry, it measures the vibrations of the machines which goes beyond its specifications that can cause poor quality output while in shipping, many customers want feedback from packages that are shipped.

The device is based on a microprocessor while displaying and updating in real time the root-mean-square (RMS) values of the acceleration it is exposed to in a single-axial direction. The parts that consists the device include a battery power supply, LCD display, A/D converter, an accelerometer, and microcontroller.

The user can rotate in multiple modes such as Peak, Average, and Integrated. The device updates the highest RMS value in peak mode while the average RMS value in Average mode and the sum of all RMS samples in Integrated RMS mode. The raw Gs measured by the accelerometer will be displayed in the instantaneous mode. The final result is read easily with simple button interface screen.
