This home automation system was designed in order to provide control through web browser or a mobile phone for the ON/OFF state of up to eight 3A appliances at home.
The project uses a cheap programmable PIC16F84 chip along with a WAP/web enabled phone for the mobile control features of the system which is applicable to all modern mobile phones. A web browser can be used or a PHP enabled web space as the computer is always ON as well as the internet connection. By setting an internet-viewable webcam, the usefulness of the system can also be extended. This can provide some visual feedback by freely publishing programs using a USB webcam.
There are three functional sections in which the system can be split including the PHP files on the internet server that handle the front-end interface to browsers and WAP phones while sending commands to the home computer, the Java application on the home computer that passes the received messages from the internet sever to the automation hardware through the serial port, and the control box that will actuate the eight 240VAC switches after receiving signals through the serial port.
Wire-to-board interconnection options from Sullins feature a wide range of sizes and applications
MCC’s TVS series high-power suppressors protect sensitive components from voltage spikes and transients
Evaluation boards that streamline evaluating circuit protection on RS-485 serial device ports
