Any appliance can be controlled by this remote hijacker by intercepting the invisible signals that come from remote controls and be able to record certain button presses.
During the operation, the pulses coming into the infrared decoder is timed by a simple microcontroller program and for later playback, they are stored in the internal SRAM. The project can still be modified or altered since the source code is made as simple as possible. About 3 button presses can be recorded and played back using the ATmega88 and more button presses can be stored with larger internal memory.
The Sharp decoder module used in this project was taken from old VCRs and DVD players. The same exact system that is found in the remote control which uses an infrared LED to send out the modulated pulse stream is used in the playback portion. All components are held inside of the can to ensure no short circuits.
Another modification that can be done is to prevent the user from doing anything at all after messing with the TV or VCR by just sending random pulses on a button press.
