IR Decoders with PIC Applied

Figure:1

Figure 1

The project was created with PIC16F84 processor to allow the decoders to see the codes that are being transmitted by the remote since every supported IR protocol has its own PIC program that will be flashed into a PIC16F84.

The PIC16F84 processor is the heart of the project that is accompanied by standard components such as the 4MHz crystal and reset circuitry. The two IR receivers used in this project has one tuned to a 36kHz carrier and the other to 38kHz which ensures adequate sensitivity for all supported protocols. The two diodes add together the signals of both receivers before they are applied to Port A bit 4 of the PIC while ensuring that a 22uF capacitor is connected close to the supply pins of each of the receivers.

The LED display is a multiplexed 4 digit which is easier to wire than 4 separate one-digit displays. Eight 180Ohm resistors limit the individual segment current while four PNP transistors are driving the common anodes of the 4 displays.

An external power supply is used by the circuit with a rating of 5V at about 100mA and slightly thicker wires are being used.
