For advertising and promotion, light chaser circuits are used to produce lighting animation sequences to attract attention like the movie theater marquee.
The device contains a lighting controller where the strings usually contain 140 lights which are often termed as Motion Lights. The strings were converted to an LED string. A circuit has been introduced in the late 90’s which could flash LEDs in the traditional light chaser fashion. The LEDs are having colors such as blue, green, red, and yellow although they will not be too colorful with red LEDs but will look as good as the ill-fated Christmas light chaser circuit which can lasts much longer.
There are several lighting circuits strung together in a light chaser where every first light in the string is turned ON, then OFF and the next light is turned ON and then OFF, and so on. Only four circuits repeated twice that is used to control the 8 lights. The same circuit connects the two lights that are ON at any given time.
The rope light is another variation of light chaser where the light strings are contained in a tube for easy handling and maintenance.

2 years ago: The " Oldies, but goodies" mini-lights sets that had these four channel controlers, seem to have become just another page in history. I have been unable to find the anywhere for a few years now.
