Embedded developers working on mobile applications that require tablet-style functionality uses this Beagle Embedded Starter Kit which can make a fully functional handheld portable device.
The Beagle Board is an open source single board computer with high performance processor running at 720MHz. It can run Linux more than enough by being equipped with 2GB NAND and SRAM. The project illustrates the process of building a Linux platform by soldering required pins for Beagle Touch display and Beagle Juice battery pack. A preformatted SD card is used to boot the Linux. The assembly of Beagle Board can be compared to the assembly of Arduino touchshield.
The design results in a compact handheld device that can serve as a tablet computer, portable control panel, or kiosk interface since everything is modular and snaps on or mounts directly to the Beagle Board. Also, this setup allows embedded software developers to spend less time navigating complex hardware and more time prototyping custom applications.
Mounted directly on the Beagle Board is a 4.3” OLED touch screen and the need for several peripherals and a mess of wires is reduced by the Beagle Touch with USB serial communication.
