The project was named as JDM Programmer used for burning small PIC’s and as a serial programmer, it works on the serial port RS232 of a PC.
Any external power supply will not be required to power the programmer since the serial port itself is being used to supply the programmer. It should be noted that using this circuit with a laptop is not advisable since the nature of laptop serial port contains weak voltages. The PIC16F84A and PIC16F628A have been tested on this project.
Using WinQcad software, the PCB was designed easily with good auto-routing feature. The tracks on the PCB were drawn using the Toner transfer method and it made a very nice outcome. During the process of creating the PCB, the black toner tracks can be seen from the Ironing process and the paper can be removed with the use of toothbrush. The etching solution utilizes ferric chloride where the PCB was inserted.
After preparing the PCB, the components will be soldered according to the schematic diagram. In case this is a bigger project, it is advised to look at the drawings on the component side when placing the components.
