Testing Device for Servo Motors

The project was designed to create a servo tester that can be used to control two servos independently.

The quality of the servo signal can be analyzed from the receiver by measuring the voltage and current under servo load. It is simpler to use compared to the old 4-button tester since it uses a rotary encoder for fast and intuitive navigation of the menus. The device can be used as a tachometer and can also be controlled remotely from a PC with a later software upgrade.

The servo tester is a hardware and software device the produces a pulse width signal between 1 and 2 ms. The R/C servos are being controlled using this signal which is read as an input from a receiver. The two servos are driven by generating two separate signals while sweep mode is used for stress testing of servos. The resolution is very high at both input and outputs. All features can be accessed with just a single rotary knob with integrated push button, making the test more user friendly.

Other features of the tester are the LCD with 2×16 characters, an optical tachometer, and an RS232 connection.

2 years ago:  This is a good tester. Are the components soldered on one sided PCB? What is the purpose of the black knob on the side? I guess something is being adjusted by this...
