The device was designed specifically for use in creating a proper layout of PCBs with the use LED to make a UV exposure piece of equipment. Although the price of the circuit may seem to be high, it is very useful in complicated photo etched parts of PCBs which can be made in double sided type.
The reason why LEDs are more preferred than any type of lamps is due to its efficiency in energy and cheaper in price. For safety reason, LEDs do not contain mercury and emits fixed frequency band compared to the conventional UV tubes. They possess longer life span which can last for decades instead of months.
The exposures to these LEDs are longer than those in the market since LEDs are less powerful, but the speed of creating a PCB does not really matter anyway. Sometimes, slowly but surely process is an advantage.
The image illustrates a recent generation of UV LEDs with intense brightness to form a double sided panel UV exposure box with 84 LEDs in each panel. The power in each panel is 8.4W while the voltage drawn is 12V at 700mA.
